WAFS Upgrade or Update Instructions

Applicability

The instructions below apply to the following products.  If your product is not listed, please visit the support page for your particular product.

WAFS Server and WAFS Agent

Upgrade or Update Instructions
Important Pre-installation Notes:
  • All WAFS Servers and Agents must be upgraded and be running the same version of the software. Using different versions among WAFS Servers or Agents will result in performance degradation and possible synchronization problems or data loss.
  • If you are upgrading from WAFS 3.0, contact the WAFS Customer Service team for a free upgrade license key.
  • Upgrade the WAFS Server first, then upgrade all of the WAFS Agents.
  • Do not uninstall the WAFS Server or the WAFS Agents.
  • If you are using anti-virus software that scans processes, you must add the WAFS Agent process (AvlAgt.exe) to the exclusion list.  Click here for more information.
  • If the WAFS Agent is configured for Delayed Startup, the WAFS Agent upgrade process will be slowed. To turn off Delayed Startup: On the WAFS Agent system tray menu, click Setup and Preferences and then on the General tab, clear the Delayed startup check box.
  • As a precaution, a complete backup before any software upgrade is recommended.

UPGRADING THE AVAILL SERVER

  1. Download the most recent release of the WAFS upgrade version and save it to a convenient location on the Server computer.
  2. Stop the WAFS Server service as follows:

    • In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools then double-click Services.
    • Select WAFS (or Availl) Server and then click Stop Service.
  3. Start the Setup file downloaded in Step 1 above and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. On the Upgrade Server screen, click Upgrade Server.  When the upgrade process is finished, the server will restart.
  5. Verify completion by checking the version number shown in the WAFS Server console main window title bar.

UPGRADING THE WAFS AGENTS

Automatic WAFS Agent Upgrade:

If you are upgrading from the next most recent release, the WAFS Server may automatically push the upgrade to each individual WAFS Agent, in which case a message will appear at each WAFS Agent prompting the user to upgrade.  Follow the onscreen instructions. When the upgrade process is finished, the WAFS Agent service will restart.

If you are upgrading from an older version, or if the WAFS Agent upgrade notification message does not appear automatically, then it will be necessary to upgrade the WAFS Agent manually.

Manual Agent Upgrade:

  1. Download the most recent release of WAFS from the WAFS Support Center and save it to a convenient location on the WAFS Agent computer.
  2. Stop the WAFS Agent service as follows:

    • In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools then double-click Services.
    • Select WAFS (or Availl) Agent and then click Stop Service.
  3. Start the Setup file downloaded in Step 1 above and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. On the Upgrade Agent screen, click Upgrade Agent.  Restart the WAFS Agent computer if or when prompted to do so.
  5. The WAFS Agent service and the WAFS Agent should start automatically. If not, then restart the WAFS Agent service as follows:
    • In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools then double-click Services.
    • Select WAFS (or Availl) Agent and then click Start Service.
  6. If necessary, restart the WAFS Agent and then confirm that the agent is running as a service.
    • On the WAFS Agent system tray menu, click Setup and Preferences.
    • On the General tab, confirm that the Run as NT Service check box is selected and then click OK.
  7. On the WAFS Agent system tray menu, click the WAFS (or Availl) logo and check the version number to confirm that the upgrade has been successfully completed.
  8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 for each additional WAFS Agent.
